Arriving to Tenerife, local transportation and social programme

Unless you are arriving from one of our neighboring islands, you will probably have to come to Tenerife by plane. There are two airports in Tenerife and the international code TCI refers to both, while the code TFN stands for Northern Tenerife airport and TFS for the Southern one. TFN is in the city of La Laguna, a mere 2 km from the conference venue and is way more convenient if you can choose. However, TFS is a much larger airport with direct flights to and from most large cities in Europe and some others in Africa and America.

More info on the public transport system can be found here

To arrive to La Laguna or Santa Cruz from TFN, you can take:

  • bus number 20, where the first stop after the airport is the one convenient if you are staying in La Laguna, while the third and last stop is the most convenient one if you are staying in downtown Santa Cruz, while the second one is adequate for those staying in some of the hotels near the exit of Santa Cruz such as Silken Atlántida; Prices: 2.65€ (single ticket) or 2.25€  (if you buy the TEN+ card, which is a wallet card. The TEN+ card can be bought at the bus stop at the airport). You can pay by using either cash or credit card;
  • a taxi (to La Laguna it should be really reasonable, and within the metropolitan area, it shouldn’t cost more than 15-20 euros). You can pay by using either cash or credit card; or
  • if you drive, it is a very short drive so the directions depend more on where within the city you are going.

To arrive to Santa Cruz from TFS, you can take:

  • bus number 10
    (check that it is going towards Santa Cruz and not towards Los Cristianos / Costa Adeje / Playa de las Américas). The trip takes around 48 minutes, for a cost of 9.35€ (single ticket) or 6.95€ (if you buy the TEN+ card, which is a wallet card).
  • A taxi for this distance will be somewhat expensive and it will not reduce the travel time significantly;
  • If you are driving, after leaving the airport drive forward to the TF5 motorway in direction towards Santa Cruz (which is well signaled all throughout) for around 55 kms. There usually is heavy traffic on this road but it is in very good condition.

To arrive to La Laguna or Puerto de la Cruz from TFS, by public transport, first go to Santa Cruz, then at the Intercambiador de Santa Cruz, you can change to either the tram line 1, or buses 15 (this is the faster), 14, 20, 26 or many others (to La Laguna) or 30 (to Puerto de la Cruz). The tram is usually more comfortable but slower than the bus, but both options are acceptable.

To arrive to Puerto de la Cruz from TFN, you can take bus number 30
(check the name on the front of the bus reads “Puerto de la Cruz” and not “Santa Cruz” or “La Laguna”). Prices: 4.75 € (single ticket) or 3.40€ (if you buy the TEN+ card, which is a wallet card).

A taxi will be costly but not as much as from TFS and it may be a good option if the waiting time for the bus is long.
